Canon Rebel is a popular choice for beginners. I’ve never heard of the other one, but if it has similar features, then it is probably suitable.

In all honesty, I would go for the cheaper of the two–because in the future–if you stick with photography, then you will buy a newer/better/different camera. It just happens. Even check out pawn shops, ebay, etc. for a good deal on a used one.

I started out with Nikon N55. It is very similar to the Rebel, and also a great camera.

Oh, that’s easy. The Canon Rebel, hands down. This depends greatly on what you’ll be using it for and how much money you are willing to spend. The Canon Digital Rebel XT and XTi are excellent for beginners. The XT is the cheapest, as low as $ 499, but for a DSLR is low on the mega pixels at 6.0MP. The XTi replaced the XT and has many features over the latter to include 10.1 mega pixels, and new auto-focus system borrowed from the more professional and expensive 30D, a larger LCD screen and a self cleaning image sensor. For the money, the XTi is the best choice for good DSLR and can be found for $ 699. Plus Canon has a broader selection of lenses, which is the most important part of any camera. I’m an enthusiast/hobbyist, looking to go semi-pro and for the money I’m choosing the XTi, a very capable camera body, and will spend the most $ on a fast lens.

Canon X Olympus…

Today all brands have the same technologie, but I like Canon (option lenses, auto-focus ), if you read the camera features, both cameras write 36 bit raw files, and 24 bit RGB.

Olympus E 500 max 3264 x 2448

Canon XT max 3456 x 2304 (difference is little )

LCD Canon XT 1,8inch (bad)

LCD Canon “”XTi “” 2,5 inch (same as Minolta )

LCD Minolta 2,5inch

But

Canon XTi ( 10 megapixels 679,00 )

Canon XT ( 8 megapixels 599,00 )

Minolta E 500 ( 8 megapixels 400,00) can you believe ?

Best buy is Minolta ( price x megapixels x technologie )

good luck

the canon digital rebel xt is a great camera….i have one and i love it….lenses are available for relatively cheap…contrary to the above post…the rebel xt is 8 megapixels not 6…..even thought the xti has 10.1 MP, 8 megapixels is plenty for the typical amatuer photographer….if you purchase this camera you will not regret it…..

When you say the word “professional,” it rules out the Evolt. The viewfinder is small, the sensor is small, start-up is slow, lens availability is minuscule compared to Canon…. Need I go on?

It might be a nice camera for general use, but not professional use.

I’d go with the Canon. Or have you looked at the Nikon D40/D40x/D50/D80 line?

While the E-Volt is a decent camera, the lenses and accessories are way overpriced, and the selection of lenses and flashes are small in comparison to the Canon or Nikon offerings.
