I keep seeing everywhere that the red light cameras are illegal in Michigan, however, I do see cameras at some intersections. Are they illegal? Are the ones I’m seeing dummies?

Running a light, is illegal.

Speeding, is illegal.

Etc.

And it’s funny that the minute the police use devices to stop you from breaking those laws…people decide that the devices themselves are illegal.

Sorry, doesn’t work that way. They are legal.

You are seeing some fake ones, some real ones. The point is, don’t run red lights, and you won’t ever have to worry about them either way.

Of course, they could always get rid of the cameras. And the next time someone runs a red, and hits your car….sorry, you won’t have any camera proof of what happened…guess you’ll just have to hope that witnesses are around to say what happened.

Edit: And did you actually read the basis of his argument? His argument is that since the law doesn’t say that red light cameras may be used, that it immediately implies that they may not be used.

That’s the logic of a 5 year old. “Mom, you said i couldn’t play baseball outside, but you didn’t say I couldn’t play soccer…”

You may also notice that most recent case he could find that was an example was 1953. Surely if it was a “well established canon” as he states, there would be recent cases to use as supporting argument.

This is happening in a lot of cities, where people are complaining that their rights are infringed on, and look for loopholes to get out of it.

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox declared February 14th that the use of red light and speed cameras within the state is illegal.

Cox found that because state law established red light running as a criminal violation, any local ordinance declaring such a violation a civil matter would be “in conflict” with the law……..
