INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) – The Episcopal Church’s House of Bishops on Saturday approved a proposal that, if it survives a final vote, would give transgender men and women the right to become ministers in the church.

The House of Bishops voted at the church’s General Convention to include “gender identity and expression” in its “non-discrimination canons,” meaning sexual orientation, including that of people who have undergone sex-change operations, cannot be used to exclude candidates to ministry.

Most of his followers were women. But I would say no to the minister part.

Even though Debrah lead Israel.

The Episcopal church long ago dropped off the radar when it comes to being a bible following church.

Answer by Frankie
I doubt it.

He taught women and men. Women had a low station in this culture and could not be rabbis.

Some of the leaders of the New testament church were women. Junia is listed a an apostle and the name is female .

Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.

— Romans 16:7 Authorized Version

(other versions: Romans 16:7)

Paul describes Junia (and Andronicus) as kinsmen, fellow prisoners, and as being “in Christ” before Paul’s dramatic Damascus road conversion. The phrase, “of note among the apostles,” (KJV, Douay, Darby, ERV, YLT, KJ21, NKJV, AKJV) leads many to the conclusion that she is the only woman apostle mentioned in the New Testament.

No.

The Bible forbids transgenderism in the form of transvestitism (because no one could conceive of anyone being as so depraved as to want to physically alter their bodies just to be the opposite sex).

no

We don’t really hear anything Jesus said about that, nothing that is written. Paul certainly was against it, but some wonder if it was his past (though he was completely against almost everything else Jewish)

My guess is he is more concerned as to what comes out of our mouths as ministers, though it is a very slippery slope. Transgendered people are sinning, so they pose a false role model. Some people would consider that mean. Would anyone consider the reality of a Catholic as a role model that molests children?

Answer by John
I dont mind female preachers as it is Biblical but would maybe uncomfortable with someone who has had a sex change. That being said in the Love of God.

from Brother John

God appointed female Judges. I don’t see where God is the one segregating males from females. In God there is no male or female we are “People”. He uses who makes themselves available to Him wherever He Chooses..

Answer by WitnessofJesus
preachers, ministers no, ordained priests and clergy, YES

there was a non biblical woman preacher who walked with Paul, called Theckla. she preached the gospel and found herself in danger of her life, and i believe the books which say there were divine miracles that saved her life from death on a few occasions.

however, think about this, all women are created first to give birth. and the bible does say that a woman must give birth to find forgiveness. i have no idea if it is actually true. the atonement is for all of us, but the fact is that a woman is created first to give birth and raise and nurture children. forsaking this creation is not a light thing to do, to forsake the reason of creation and to undermine priesthood authority is a sin. its also one of the worst sin a priesthood holder can do to forsake his family. its worse than infidelity.

Of course not… the only important humans to the christian God are men. Women are property. Don’t believe me? Well read the Bible and you will see that it isn’t a human rights book… it is a property rights book.. Women, children and God condoned slaves don’t have rights. The Bible gives men lists of rules on how to treat their property.

Great question.

I feel that if the person, no matter their gender, is qualified they should be allowed to.

Your question was would Jesus approve?

Hard to say because:

Jesus chose twelve male apostles.

He never intended to start a new religion.

The Sanhedrin’s was all male, but he disliked their practice of faith.

When did they start allowing female Rabbi’s?

“In Gnostic Christian circles, such as one that Mary Magdalene may have led, women were prophets and leaders. The Apostle Paul in his New Testament letters greeted women and referred to them as coworkers. He even called one a deacon” (M.Lester).

Answer by John “Redleg”
If true this means the Episcopal church will further divide the ultra liberal, the moderates and conservative church groups. God welcomes both men and women to bring forth his word for those with gender identity disorders he remained mute. God is not a political correct persons favoring either liberals or conservatives values.

Answer by Messenger of God
Jesus was a male obviously and when the Son of God became man, He knew His gender was important within the culture He was to be born into. The Jewish Pharisees and Scribes were all men for a reason. In Jewish society they understood that because Eve tempted Adam therefore because a woman lead a man to disobey God that in maters of religion women were forbidden to discuss with men. They basically had no place in theological discussions between men.

So if Jesus was born as a female in Jewish society no one would have listen to what she had to say. This is also why Jesus chosen His 12 Apostles as men, because He knew eventually He would have to leave them so they were His Priests. And as the tradition went the Apostles had chosen men as their successors, there had never once been a women Bishop. Even the co-workers the Priest have always been men.

Now Deacons who were men could give spiritual guidance to both men and women. But the Deaconess who were women could only give spiritual guidance to women. Eventually the Ministry of Deaconess because of the restrictions upon them had been discontinued in the Western Church. The Eastern Church still has the Ministry of Deaconess in the Byzantine tradition today but it’s in a decline.

The Episcopal Church has fallen away from the tradition which Jesus began in regards to the Apostolic succession of only men being allowed as Bishops and Priests. So it’s no suprise that they are also allowing transgender men and women as Ministers.

1 Timothy 2:12

I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly.

Answer by Camille
Yes He did. God does sees men and women as the same in the area of ministering. God called a man to do what Kathryn Kuhlman did but he would not do it so He called Kathryn Kuhlman and she was a divorced woman but she had a heart for God and she obeyed Him in everything.

It only takes a willing and obedient heart and to be available.

those who oppose women from being ministers fail to see that God does not have to follow what they deem Godly. God has already said that man’s ideas and opinions and wisdom is evil. So it is nothing to do what people feel it is how God sees it.

He uses anyone who is available and He will use a donkey if He has to!!

((Bilbo))) God bless you I see how He uses you on this board.

Read the Bible. Female ministers and leaders were not uncommon in His church. We have the names of some of them. Read them. If Jesus did not want them to work in His name, He would not have placed them in the positions they were in.

We can do no other than what Jesus did.
