Well, you are going to need a USB cable, or some other cable that is compatible with your camera and your PC or other media device, you can find these cables at WAL-MART, TARGET etc.

Also, make sure the cable IS compatible with both your devices.

Canon also makes camcorders with DV ports, that use MiniDV tape. They require you to hook that to a IEEE1394 port in your computer via the proper Firewire cable that will connect those two ports.

If your computer, be it laptop or tower, can get a IEEE1394 port installed, look online for one for your computer. Firewire cables can had at most any tech store and come in lengths of up to 100 feet, and I have seen ways to hook cables together to get more length, if needed. Camcorders are usually 4 pin and computers IEEE1394 ports are 6 pin, so 4 pin to 6 pin cable would probably be what you need.

You didn’t mention the model so as we could have determined whether it’s a DLSR, a flash memory (HD) camcorder or a miniDV camcorder … Still and Video Camera

….would not second guess as the post is in Camcorders (video camera)

The first 2 already have video as a file (.mov or mp4) in the flash memory storage – can upload thru a File Explorer like Windows Explorer (‘my computer’) by way of:

- For a.} Internal Flash memory (cannot be detached) and b.}’external’ detachable memory: a USB connection w/camera/ camcorder on playback mode would show a new ‘external’ drive in your computer; File explorer transfer would then be done manually.

- For ‘external’ detachable memory: another option would be to detach the Flash memory card (SD,Compact Flash, etc.), insert into a USB memory card reader connected to the computer and a new drive would be shown in the computer.

For miniDV (tape) camcorder: videos have to be playedback and streamed to the computer via firewire as it is still not a digital file like in a flash memory. It is then saved in the computer as an .avi file (or other choices).

Be sure far better?
