I have to consider before you buy Olympus Evolt E-520 with other DSLR cameras. Same / lower price?

Main issue from dww w: Are there any other DSLR cameras I should consider before I buy the Olympus Evolt E-520. For Same/lower price?

I am about to purchase the Olympus Evolt E-520 with the kit lens(14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko). I am new to photography and this will be my first DSLR camera.

Also, how do I find out which lenses are compatible with this camera?

I especially like the Live-view LCD. This a must have for the camera I purchase.

That is facts to consider about Are there any other DSLR cameras I should consider before I buy the Olympus Evolt E-520. For Same/lower price? possibly might want to clear up concerns individually. With a little luck this will assist you in lots of ways, and produce everything greater. Dreaming facts to consider about Are there any other DSLR cameras I should consider before I buy the Olympus Evolt E-520. For Same/lower price? might possibly be a solution down the line.

I think you should look at some Nikons and Canons. They are the choice for most professional photographers.

As for the live view, you are going to find out that it is pretty worthless unless you use a tripod. Trying to hold the camera out in front of you to take a picture will be hard for you to hold it steady. It’s much heavier than the point & shoots that you are probably used to. And if other people see you trying to use a DSLR that way, you will probably be laughed at, because you are supposed to use the viewfinder to take pictures. Live view is really useless for most people.

The E-520 is a very capable camera. Nikon and Canon fanboys will say that Nikons and Canons have a wider variety of lenses, but none will say that a D40 or EOS with the kit lens will take better pictures, have more features for the same or lower price, or say that it will make you a better photographer than if you had a Sony, Olympus or Pentax.

What a Sony, Minolta or Pentax owner will say is that for the price you pay for the E-520 with the kit lens is a fully capable camera with in-camera image stabilization and dust reduction and the fact that you will never have to pay extra for image stabilization in the lens. I got a E-500 on clearance at Circuit City for $ 189 and a 40-150mm lens at Fry’s for $ 100 and never had to worry about getting the image stabilzation option on the lens (“IS” for Canon, “VR” for Nikon). Yes, these are the same quality as “kit” lenses, but you will have to pay about $ 100 more for the stabilized version of the same lenses from the other companies.

Things l Iike about the Olympus:

+/-5 EV compensation range (my sony A-100 only extends to +/-3)

Red, Green, Blue “filtered” Black and White mode. Almost as effective as using actual optical filters and no Photshop needed.

Sensitive IR sensor – A Hoya 72 Red filter produces great Infra red photographs:

Things that may not be so great about the E-500 (and 520)

- Only 3 AF spots lined up horizontally. In 2 years of use, this never was a problem

- (520 only) Using live view will increase shutter lag from 1/10 second to 6/10 sec. and 2.1 sec using auto focus, that is not acceptable in most cases. But the live view WILL let you take a picture while holding the camera over a fence or high above a crowd work want VR Using shooting Same question price pictures picture OLYMPUS Nikon D40 lower Live View Function lenses LCD Evolt EV E520 DSLR consider Canon cameras camera better before answer I have to consider before you buy Olympus Evolt E 520 with other DSLR cameras. I love my E-500, the only thing that would make it complete would be the in-camera image stabilization. I have been shooting 35mm SLR for nearly 30 years so I have a pretty steady hand, but I like the IS on my A-100 when zoomed out @ 450mm while hand holding the camera and wished I had it on the E-500.

Lenses:

All Olympus 4/3 lenses will work as well as earlier lenses. Look at these pages for reference:
