“Canon” refers to an organized body of work. In this case, it means all the things that have happened to the characters during the series of books. J. K. Rowling has done a terrific job of making everything hang together coherently, without contradictions from book to book.

Answer by zerogirl

“Canon” is the official details and information about Harry Potter. The stuff the comes straight from the books.

“Fanon” is the stuff that the fans in that group have decided amoung themselves is also true.
